Jack Lazara
CLIFTON — Services were held for Jack Lazara, 57, of Howell, who died on Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2008 after a long illness. He was a former resident of this city. A memorial Mass was offered at St. Mary of the Lake Church in Lakewood on Oct. 25. Arrangements were by the George S. Hassler Funeral Home in Jackson Township.
Mr. Lazara attended Sacred Heart School and was a 1969 graduate of Clifton High School and was on the varsity football team. He attended the University of Oklahoma where his position was halfback.
He was the owner and operated American Barbell and Ferrigno’s gyms.
He is survived by his wife, the former Brenda Holloway, three daughters, Danielle Smelzter and her husband Scott; Cristina, Stacy, of Connecticut and a 16-month-old granddaughter Gabriella, and his Aunt Mary Mazzarisi.
His father, Americo (Rick) Lazazzero, also survives him. His loving mother, Esther, predeceased him.
Sharon Mundell-Jezek
CLIFTON
— Services were held for Sharon Mykietyn Mundell-Jezek, 61, of this city, who died on Friday, Oct. 3, 2008.
Born in Passaic, Mrs. Mundell-Jezek was a lifelong resident of Clifton. She was a secretary for the Alfred Sinn Insurance Agency, Clifton, before retiring in 1997.
Arrangements were by the Allwood Funeral Home, Clifton. Donations may be sent to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, 2600 Network Blvd., Suite 300, Frisco, Texas 75034.
Mrs. Mundell-Jezek is survived by her husband, Jan Jezek; her sons, William Mundell of Clifton, and Brian Mundell of Garfield; her brothers, Thomas Mykietyn of Pompton Plains, and Michael Mykietyn and Robert Mykietyn, both of Springfield, Va.; and her former husband, William Mundell, of Paramus.
James Cataldo
CLIFTON
— Services were held for James Cataldo, 91, of this city, who died on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2008.
Services were Wednesday, Sept. 24 at the Festa Memorial Funeral Home, Totowa.
Blodwen Kurtz
CLIFTON
— Services were held for Blodwen T. Kurtz, 93, of Little Egg Harbor, who died on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008. She was a former resident of this city.
Born in Passaic, Mrs. Kurtz lived in Clifton before moving to Little Egg Harbor in 1974. She was a first grade teacher in Roselle Park for four years and in Ho-Ho-Kus for 33 years. Also, she was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, New Gretna. She sang in choirs and taught Sunday school in three Methodist churches. And, she taught crafts at St. Paul’s Church and was a docent at the Tuckerton Maritime Museum.
Services were Wednesday, Oct. 8 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, followed by burial on Thursday at East Ridgelawn Cemetery, Clifton. Arrangements were by the Maxwell Funeral Home, Little Egg Harbor.
Her cousins, Alyce Browning and Richard Tresselt survive Mrs. Kurtz.
Her husband, Frederick, predeceased her.
John Romagnoli
CLIFTON
— Services were held for John Romagnoli, 90, of this city, who died on Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008.
Born in New York City, Mr. Romagnoli lived in Palisades Park before moving to Clifton in the 1940s. He was a self-employed ceramic tile contractor before retiring. Also, he was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a recipient of the Bronze Star. And, he was a parishioner of St. Philip the Apostle R.C. Church, Clifton.
Services were Thursday, Oct. 9 at the Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, Clifton, followed by Mass at St. Philip the Apostle R.C. Church. Interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Hackensack. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Passaic Valley Hospice, 783 Riverview Dr., Totowa, N.J. 07512.
His son, Donald, of Blairstown; his daughter, Barbara Orovitz, of Wilmington, N.C.; his brother, William, of California; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren survive Mr. Romagnoli.
His wife, the former Emily Battistelli; five brothers; and a sister predeceased him.
Frank Soprano
CLIFTON
— Services were held for Frank Soprano, 95, of this city, who died on Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008.
Born in North Bergen, Mr. Soprano lived in Italy and then in North Bergen from 1927 to 1982, when he moved to Clifton. He was a maintenance worker for the Township of North Bergen for many years. Also, he was a member of the Lyndhurst Masonic Lodge.
Services were Wednesday, Oct. 8 at Shook’s Funeral Home, Cedar Grove, followed by Mass at St. Clare’s R.C. Church, Clifton. Interment was at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus.
Many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews survive Mr. Soprano.
His wife, the former Florence Battaglino, predeceased him.
Elizabeth Sudol
CLIFTON
— Services were held for Elizabeth H. Kagan Sudol, 83, of Passaic, who died on Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008. She was a former resident of this city.
Born in Clifton, Mrs. Sudol lived there before moving to Passaic 60 years ago. She was a wrapper for Bee Paper Co., Passaic and Wayne, for 22 years before retiring in 1991. Also, she was a parishioner of Holy Rosary R.C. Church, Passaic. She was a member of the Lower Dundee Association, the Senior Link for the former Beth Israel Hospital Foundation in Passaic, and AARP as well.
Services were Thursday, Oct. 9 at the Kamienski Funeral Home, Wallington, followed by Mass at Holy Rosary R.C. Church. Interment was at St. Michael’s Cemetery, South Hackensack.
Her sons, Richard of Jefferson Township, Michael of Milford, Pa., and Donald of Passaic and eight grandchildren survive Mrs. Sudol.
She was predeceased by her husband, Sylvester; her daughter, Mary Ann; her brothers, Edward Kagan and Walter Kagan; and her sisters, Estelle Tartas, Helen Puzio, Sophie Kowalczyk, Mary Swiatek, and Pauline Baran.
John Converse
CLIFTON
— Services were held for John Frederick Converse, 65, of this city, who died on Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008.
Born in Paterson, Mr. Converse lived in Clifton for the past 16 years. He was a stationary engineer for the Daughters of Miriam, Clifton, for 21 years.
Services were Thursday, Oct. 9 at the Minchin Funeral Home, Paterson.
His wife, the former Ellen Snell; his children, Shawn, Colleen, Denise, and Lori-Ann; his sisters, Madeline Dudak, Diane Newby, and Charimaine Converse; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren survive Mr. Converse.
Mary Rossi
CLIFTON
— Services were held for Mary Panchak Rossi, 94, of Wayne, who died on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008. She was a former resident of this city.
Born in Elizabeth, Mrs. Rossi lived in Clifton before moving to Wayne four years ago. She was a clerk for Walter Kidde Co., Belleville, for 17 years before retiring in 1972. Also, she was a parishioner of St. Andrew R.C. Church, Clifton.
Services were at the Allwood Funeral Home, Clifton, followed by interment at East Ridgelawn Cemetery, Clifton.
Mrs. Rossi is survived b y her daughter, Angela Coppola, of Wayne; her sons, Robert of Wayne, and Frank of Clifton; her sisters, Nancy Henn, Dorothy Tobin, and Helen Lee; three grandchildren; and three great-grandsons.
She was predeceased by her husband, Frank; her brother, Michael Panchak; and her sisters, Olga MacMillian, Annie Smitka, Catherine Hynes, and Teresa Loughney.
Margaret DeSantis
CLIFTON
— Services were held for Margaret DeVogel DeSantis, 82, of Brick, who died on Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008. She was a former resident of this city.
Services were at the Herbertsville Colonial Funeral Home, Brick.
Mrs. DeSantis is survived by her husband, Antonio; her sons, John Ackerman of Florida, Lawrence DeSantis of Clifton, and Vittorio DeSantis of Wall Township; her daughter, Suzanne Jansky, of Elmwood Park; her brother, Paul DeVogel, of Florida; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Her son, Ryan Ackerman, predeceased her.
Evelyn Iandoli
CLIFTON
— Services were held for Evelyn St. Clair Berckart Iandoli, 91, of this city, who died on Monday, Oct. 6, 2008.
Born in Paterson, Mrs. Iandoli lived in Clifton for more than 60 years. She was a licensed beautician and the owner of Evie’s Place, Clifton, for more than 20 years before retiring in 2001.
Services were at St. Bernard’s Episcopal Church, Bernardsville. Arrangements were by the Bailey Funeral Home, Peapack. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Daughters of Miriam, 155 Hazel St., Clifton, N.J. 07011.
Her son, Robert, of Far Hills; three grandchildren; and a great-grandson survive Mrs. Iandoli.
Her parents, Sam and Sophia Berckart predeceased her.
Thomas Macaluso
CLIFTON
— Services were held for Thomas H. Macaluso, 70, of Franklin Lakes, who died on Friday, Oct. 10, 2008. He was a former resident of this city.
Born in Passaic, Mr. Macaluso lived in Clifton before moving to Franklin Lakes 34 years ago. He was the owner of Tommac Construction Inc., Franklin Lakes. Also, he was a parishioner of Most Blessed Sacrament R.C. Church, Franklin Lakes. He was a member of the Arcola Country Club of Paramus and the Windstar on the Bay Country Club of Naples, Fla., as well.
Services were at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, Wyckoff, followed by Mass at Most Blessed Sacrament R.C. Church, Franklin Lakes. Interment will be at Christ the King Cemetery, Franklin Lakes. His wife, the former Dolores Kocsis; his sons, Thomas of Fort Lauderdale, and James of Wyckoff; his daughter, Joann, of Mahwah; his brother, Vincent, of Elmwood Park; and six grandchildren survive Mr. Macaluso.
His sister, Theresa and a granddaughter predeceased him.
Frank Harris

— Services were held for Frank "Bud" Harris, 66, of Lincoln Park, who died on Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2008. He was a former resident of this city.
Mr. Harris was the owner of NAB Alarm Systems, Lincoln Park, for more than 30 years.
Services were at the Caggiano Memorial Funeral Home, Montclair. Donations may be sent to the Scleroderma Foundation, attn: donations, 300 Rosewood Dr., Danvers, Mass. 01923.
His wife, Xianghua "Michelle" Harris; his daughters, Nicole Csemez, and Amanda DeGroot; his stepson, Yonggen "Roy" Zhu; his sisters, Contsance Ruggiero and Karyn Zerance; and four grandchildren survive Mr. Harris.
His brother, Ronald, predeceased him.
Mary Kendra

— Services were held for Mary Klos Kendra, a resident of this city, who died on Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2008.
Born in Clifton, Mrs. Kendra was a lifelong resident of this city. She was a homemaker. Also, she was a parishioner of St. Philip the Apostle R.C. Church, Clifton.
Services were at the Shook Funeral Home, Clifton, followed by Mass at St. Philip the Apostle R.C. Church, Clifton. Interment was at St. Michael’s Cemetery, South Hackensack. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Hospice of New Jersey, 400 Broadacres Dr., Bloomfield, N.J. 07003.
Her son, Dennis, of Clifton; her sister, Josephine Czesak, of Florida; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren survive Mrs. Kendra.
Her husband, Michael, predeceased her.
Diane Tintle
CLIFTON
— Services were held for Diane S. Tintle, 75, of Jacksonville Beach, Fla., who died on Monday, Oct. 13, 2008. She was a former resident of this city.
Born in Montclair, Mrs. Tintle lived in Bloomfield, Clifton, Brick, Cherry Hill, Woodcliff Lake, and Spring Lake before moving to Jacksonville Beach. She was a parishioner of Our Lady Star of the Sea, Ponte Verde Beach, Fla., and St. Catherine’s Church, Spring Lake.
Services were at St. Catherine’s Church, followed by burial at St. Anne’s Cemetery, Wall. Arrangements were by the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Saint Barnabas Hospice, 300 Second Ave., Long Branch, N.J. 07740.
Mrs. Tintle is survived by her husband, David; her sons, David of Allendale, Douglas of Middletown, and Daniel of Hillsdale; her daughters, Donna Fava of Ponte Verde Beach, Dawn Seidel of Sea Girt, and Dena Tintle of Jacksonville, Fla.; her sister, Sandra O’Brien, of Ashburn, Va.; and 14 grandchildren.
Eugene DiVirgilio

— Services were held for Eugene DiVirgilio, 77, of this city, who died on Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008.
Born in Passaic, Mr. DiVirgilio lived in Clifton for the past 40 years.
Services were at the Allwood Funeral Home, Clifton. Entombment was at Calvary Cemetery, Paterson.
His son, Harold Vrabel, of Fredon; his daughters, Michelle Vrabel of Passaic, Claire Miller of Wayne, and Kathy Baker of Clifton; his sister, Jean Maiuri; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren survive Mr. DiVirgilio.
His wife, the former Claire Smallwood, predeceased him.
