Stimulus checks go unclaimed

CLIFTON – At least 50 residents still have to receive their stimulus checks that were issued by the federal government and they have until the end of the month to claim them.
Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ) has compiled a list of residents from Essex and Passaic counties who have to update their address with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) in order to receive their rebates. All addresses must be changed by Nov. 28.
The names can be accessed at http://pascrell.house.gov/news/passaic.irs.2008.xls.
The U.S. Treasury has mailed 116 million stimulus payments through September and the IRS has sent more than 105 million tax refunds this year. More than 279,000 stimulus checks worth a total of $163 million and more than 104,000 refund checks worth $103 million have been returned as undeliverable.
The average stimulus check still unspoken for is $583, while the average undeliverable refund is $988, according to the IRS.
If you find your name on the list, you can check the status of your check and update your address at http://ww.irs.gov or by calling 866-234-2942. The tool requires you to submit a Social Security number, filing status and amount of refund shown on your 2007 tax return.
