Marjorie Dailey
CLIFTON
— Services were held for Marjorie Apelian Dailey, 93, of West MIlford, who died on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008. She was a former resident of this city.
Born in Boston, Mass., Mrs. Dailey lived in Clifton and then in Wayne for 50 years before moving to West Milford five years ago. She was a department manager for W.T. Grant Co., Paterson, before retiring. Also, she was a 50-year member of the United Methodist Church, Wayne, where she was a member of the Ruth Circle and the Golden Steppers.
Services were at the United Methodist Church. Arrangements were by the Minchin Funeral Home, Paterson. Donations may be sent to the United Methodist Church, 99 Parish Dr., Wayne, N.J. 07470 or to the Alzheimer’s Association, 400 Morris Ave., Suite 251, Denville, N.J. 07834.
Her daughter, Gail Faherty, of West Milford; her sister, Anna Metzger, of Montville; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren survive Mrs. Dailey.
Her husband, George; her son, George; her parents, Aroosiag and Nishan Apelian; and her sister, Rose Cody, predeceased her.
Peter Mihalik
CLIFTON
— Services were held for Peter Mihalik, 85, of Haledon, who died on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2008. He was a former resident of this city.
Born and raised in Clifton, Mr. Mihalik lived in Denville before moving to Haledon in 1988. He was an engineer for many years at Picatinny Arsenal, Dover, and as the town engineer for Morristown for 10 years before retiring in 1998. Also, he was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.
Services were at St. Aloysius R.C. Church, followed by interment at St. Michael’s Cemetery, South Hackensack. Arrangements were by the Dancy Funeral Home, Caldwell.
His wife, the former Elizabeth Vierling; his sons, Ken of Caldwell, and Peter of New Milford; and three grandchildren survive Mr. Mihalik.
Maria Bator
CLIFTON
— Services were held for Maria Hlawacz Bator, 78, of this city, who died on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008.
Born in Poland, Mrs. Bator came to the United States in 1963 and lived in Brooklyn, N.Y., before moving to Clifton 22 years ago. She was a former parishioner of St. Aloysius R.C. Church, Queens, N.Y., and an active parishioner at St. John Kanty R.C. Church, Clifton. Also, she was a member of the Polish Branch of the Rosary Society. She was a sewing machine operator for LTD, Ozone Park, for 18 years before retiring in 1981 as well.
Services were at the Shook Funeral Home, Clifton, followed by Mass at St. John Kanty R.C. Church. Interment was at St. Michael’s Cemetery, South Hackensack.
Her daughters, Anna Bator and Grace Tlusty, both of Clifton; her brother, Alex Hlawacz, of Clifton; and two grandchildren survive Mrs. Bator.
Her husband, Konstanty and her brother, Jozef Hlawacz, predeceased her.
Ann Paulich
CLIFTON
— Services were held for Ann C. Rotar Paulich, 83, of this city, who died on Monday, Sept. 22, 2008.
Mrs. Paulich lived in Hoboken and Jersey City before moving to Clifton 48 years ago. She also kept a winter home in Long Boat Key, Fla. She was an active parishioner of St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Cathedral, Passaic, and St. Michael’s Chapel, West Paterson. She was a founding member of the St. Michael’s Cathedral Choir and a former member of the Cathedral Ladies Guild as well.
Services were at the Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, Clifton, followed by Mass at St. Michael’s Cathedral. Entombment was at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Sisters of the Order of St. Basil the Great, 500 West Main St., Uniontown, Pa. 15401.
Her husband, John; her son, John, of Pittstown, Pa.; her daughters, Judith Liquori of Clifton, Elizabeth Duch of Wyckoff, and Christine Kapinos of Randolph; her sisters, Wanda Zaremba, Mary Coghlan, and Helen Welker; and six grandchildren survive Mrs. Paulich.
Her brother, John Rotar, predeceased her.
Joseph Weixel
CLIFTON
— Services were held for Joseph B. Weixel, 67, of Hawthorne, who died on Monday, Sept. 22, 2008. He was a former resident of this city.
Born in Passaic, Mr. Weixel lived in Clifton for most of his life before moving to Hawthorne. He was the owner of S&L Textile Co., Clifton, before retiring. Also, he was a parishioner of Holy Trinity R.C. Church and secretary and member of the Board of Directors of the Passaic County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
Services were Thursday, Sept. 25 at the Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, Clifton. Please omit flowers.
His sons, Jonathan of Bloomingdale, and Joseph of Syracuse, N.Y. and his sister, Joan LaGreca, of Wayne, survive Mr. Weixel.
Dorothy Wilds
CLIFTON
— Services were held for Dorothy Mahonchak Wilds, 74, of this city, who died on Monday, Sept. 22, 2008.
Born in Passaic, Mrs. Wilds was a lifelong resident of this city. She was a secretary for the Allwood Agency of Clifton for 12 years before retiring in 1986. Also, she was a parishioner of Ss. Peter and Paul’s R.O. Cathedral, Passaic.
Services were at the Shook Funeral Home, Clifton, followed by Mass at Ss. Peter and Paul’s R.O. Cathedral. Interment was at Ss. Peter and Paul’s R.O. Cemetery, Saddle Brook.
Her husband, Anthony, survives Mrs. Wilds.
She was predeceased by her sister, Mary Mahonchak; and her brothers, Michael Mahonchak and Daniel Mihalko.
Michael Basarob
CLIFTON
— Services were held for Michael Basarob, 76, of this city, who died on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2008.
Born in Brockton, Pa., Mr. Basarob lived in Clifton for most of his life. He was a sales manager for Eastern Heating & Air Corp., Clifton, for 15 years. Also, he was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
Services were at the Marrocco Memorial Chapel, Clifton.
His wife, the former Grace Massimino, survives Mr. Basarob.
Dolores Harris
CLIFTON
— Services were held for Dolores Serena McCaskill Harris, 64, of this city, who died on Monday, Sept. 22, 2008.
Services were at Canaan Baptist Church, Paterson, followed by burial on Saturday at East Ridgelawn Cemetery, Clifton. Arrangements were by the LaGarde Funeral Home, Paterson.
Her daughters, Debra Harris-Smith, Florine Harris, and Arlene Harris-Smith; her sister, Vivian Matthews; her brothers, John McCaskill, Earl McCaskill, Nathaniel McCaskill, and Jesse McCaskill; eight grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter survive Mrs. Harris.
Peter Duchak
CLIFTON
— Services were held for Peter Duchak, 89, of Pittsburgh, Pa., who died on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008. He was the brother of Irene Vasil of this city.
Services were at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, Wyckoff, followed by interment at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Alpine Learning Group, 777 Paramus Rd., Paramus, N.J. 07652.
His sons, James of Valencia, Pa., and Douglas of Mahwah; his other sister, Olga Williamson, of Tallahassee, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren also survive Mr. Duchak.
He was predeceased b y his wife, the former Mary Polioka; and his son, Dean.
Marie Kowalski
CLIFTON
— Services were held for Marie "Madeline" Bednar Kowalski, 76, of Elmwood Park, who died on Friday, Oct. 3, 2008. She was the daughter of Anne Marie Kowalski of this city.
Services were at the Patrick J. Conte Funeral Home, Elmwood Park, followed by Mass at St. Anne’s R.C. Church, Fair Lawn. Interment was at Calvary Cemetery, Paterson.
Mrs. Kowalski also is survived by her husband, Walter; her son, Stephen, of Montville; her other daughters, Christine Williams of Norfolk, Mass., and Diane Thornton of Elmwood Park; her sister, Frances O’Byrne, of Wallington; and four grandchildren.
Mark Sancenito
CLIFTON
— Services were held for Mark A. Sancenito, 54, of this city, who died on Friday, Oct. 3, 2008.
Born in Passaic, Mr. Sancenito lived in the Clifton-Passaic area for all of his life. He was the owner and operator of Plank Service Inc. since 1974 and Passaic East Side Auto Parts, Passaic, since 1985. Also, he was an active parishioner of Assumption of the Holy Virgin Orthodox Church, Clifton, where he served on the Parish Council for several years.
Services were at the Shook Funeral Home, Clifton, followed by Mass at Assumption of the Holy Virgin Orthodox Church. Interment was at Ss. Peter and Paul’s R.O. Cemetery, Saddle Brook. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Assumption of the Holy Virgin Orthodox Church, 35 Orange Ave., Clifton, N.J. 07013.
His wife, the former Deborah Bacik; his son, Nicholas; his daughter, Victoria; his sister, Joanne Gaccione, of Clifton; and his brother, Dennis, of Spring Hill, Fla, survive Mr. Sancenito.
His parents, James and Anna and his brother, James, predeceased him.
Esther Caruso
CLIFTON
— Services were held for Esther J. Mappa Caruso, 89, of this city, who died on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008.
Born in Paterson, Mrs. Caruso lived in Newark and Garfield before moving to Clifton in 1950. She worked for International Veiling Corp., Clifton, for 37 years before retiring in 1996. Also, she was a parishioner of St. Brendan’s R.C. Church, Clifton, and a member of AARP.
Services were at the Shook Funeral Home, followed by Mass at St. Brendan’s R.C. Church. Interment was at Calvary Cemetery, Paterson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater New Jersey Chapter, 400 Morris Ave., Suite 251, Denville, N.J. 07843.
Her son, Stephen, of Clifton; her daughter, Susan, of Bloomfield; her sister, Emma Lombardo, of Elmwood Park; he brother, Nat Mappa, of Fair Lawn; two granddaughters; and two great-granddaughters survive Mrs. Caruso.
Her husband, Frank; her son, Martin; her sisters, Constance Raimonda and Dora Calandro; and her brother, Jerry Mappa, predeceased her.
Helen Lukaszewski
CLIFTON
— Services were held for Helen Evan Lukaszewski, 91, of Little Falls, who died on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008. She was the sister of Paul Evans of this city.
Services were at the Bizub-Parker Funeral Home, Little Falls, followed by Mass at Holy Angels R.C. Church, Little Falls. Interment was Wednesday at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Mocanaqua, Pa. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 120 Wall St., 19th Floor, New York, N.Y. 10005.
Mrs. Lukaszewski also is survived by her son, Frank, of Blooming Grove, N.Y.; her daughter, Rita Ness, of Lake Oswego, Ore.; her sister, Irene Harcharik, of East Stroudsburg, Pa.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Frank; her daughter, Marian Cestone; and her four sisters and four brothers predeceased her.
Olga Smolak
CLIFTON
— Services were held for Olga Smolak, a resident of this city, who died on Friday, Oct. 3, 2008.
Born in the Ukraine, she lived in Poland before moving to Clifton in 1958. She was an active parishioner of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, Passaic.
Services were at the Lakeview Memorial Home, Clifton, followed by Mass at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church. Interment was at Cedar Lawn Cemetery, Paterson.
Her sister, Maria Filewicz, survives her.
Paul Contey
CLIFTON
— Services were held for Paul T. Contey, 48, of this city, who died on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008.
Born in Hackensack, Mr. Contey lived in Lyndhurst before moving to Clifton four years ago. He worked in tech support and mainframe operations for Dial America, Mahwah, for several years.
Services were at the Nazare Memorial Home, Lyndhurst, followed by Mass at Sacred Heart Church, Lyndhurst. Entombment was at Holy Cross Chapel Mausoleum, North Arlington. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105.
His wife, the former Kathleen Kiernan; his mother, Louise, of Mahwah; and his brothers, Louis of Chicago, Ill., Christopher of Mahwah, and Steven of Lyndhurst survive Mr. Contey.
He was predeceased b y his father, Paul.
Jack Lazara
CLIFTON — Services were held for Jack Lazara, 57, of Howell, who died on Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2008 after a long illness. He was a former resident of this city. A memorial Mass was offered at St. Mary of the Lake Church in Lakewood on Oct. 25. Arrangements were by the George S. Hassler Funeral Home in Jackson Township.
Mr. Lazara attended Sacred Heart School and was a 1969 graduate of Clifton High School and was on the varsity football team. He attended the University of Oklahoma where his position was halfback.
He was the owner and operated Aemrican Barbell and Ferrigno’s gyms.
He is survived by his wife, the former Brenda Holloway, three daughters, Danielle Smelzter and her husband Scott; Cristina, Stacey, of Connecticut and a 16-month-old granddaughter Gabriella.
He is also servived by his father, Aemrico (Rick Lazazzero).
