Robberies
A woman waiting
for a bus on Main and Crooks avenues was robbed on Oct. 30 at 2:20 p.m. According to police reports a Hispanic male pushed her from behind, knocked her down and took her briefcase containing cash, credit cards and other papers. The suspect fled in a black sports car.
A man walking
on Center Street was assaulted and robbed on Nov. 2, at 3:55 a.m.
Police officers responded and found the victim laying face down in the street. He had suffered a head injury when two men approached him from behind, beat him and took his money. The victim told police the suspects were Hispanic teens, wearing "thugged-out clothing who fled on foot toward Passaic on Hope Avenue.
A 16-year-old Clifton
male was robbed while walking on Third Street and Burgess Place on Oct. 28, at 6:40 p.m.
The victim told police he was accosted from behind by two Hispanic males in dark clothing, one with a black hooded sweatshirt, according to police reports. The victim told police the suspects spoke Spanish and told him they were from the Trini gang right before one of them struck him in the head. When the teen struggled with his attacker, the other suspect took out a black automatic handgun, pointed it at him and told him not to move or he would shoot. The two suspects took the victim’s cell phone and fled on foot.
Attack
A 14-year-old Clifton
male was punched and knocked unconscious as he walked behind some friends in Sperling Park on Oct. 31, at 8:30 p.m.
Detective Capt. Robert Rowan said the attack may have been retribution for a previous incident between the groups.
Rowan said the 14-year-old was punched by a 19-year-old from Bergen County, who arrived in Clifton in a white BMW. The punch knocked the 14-year-old out and when he woke up later he was alone, Rowan said. The victim walked to the house of one of his friends and told them he needed medical help. The friends contacted the victim’s mother and the teen was taken to the hospital at about 12:57 a.m. on Nov. 1. Hospital personnel informed the police of the incident.
Because of his injuries, the teen was transported to another hospital for treatment.
On Nov. 3, following an investigation, Clifton police arrested the 19-year-old whose name was withheld, and charged him with aggravated assault.
Rumors have been circulating around the City of possible additional violence between the two groups of youths, but Rowan said police are closely monitoring the situation to prevent further fights.
Drugs
Mario Rosignano, 27,
of Paterson, was arrested and charged with DWI on Oct. 31, 3:05 a.m.
According to police reports Officer Nicholas Hriczov and Jason Ingargiola observed a silver Lincoln Towncar on Allwood Road driving slowly and drifting. The officers stopped Rosignano who quickly placed his hands in his pockets when he exited the car, according to police records. The officers told him to get his hands out of his pockets, but rather than follow directions, Rosignano pushed Ingargiola and was arrested, according to police reports, which also shows the officers searched him and found a clear plastic bag containing cocaine. Rosignano was transported to police headquarters where he was given a urine test and charged with possession of cocaine, assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia, DWI, and possession of controlled dangerous substances (CDS) in a motor vehicle.
Edward Panante, 21,
of Clifton, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana on Oct. 31 at 4:22 p.m.
According to police records, detectives Stephen Berge and John Kavakich stopped Panante for making an illegal U-turn on Lexington and Highland avenues, and while speaking with him detected a strong odor of burned marijuana. Panante said the marijuana was his and he was charged with possession of marijuana.
Wilfredo Feliciano, 20,
of Clifton, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana on Oct. 27 at 6:46 p.m.
According to police reports, detective John Kavakich observed Feliciano acting suspiciously while riding a bicycle on VanWinkle Avenue and stopped him. The detective noted in his report that Feliciano was acting nervous and spotted a bag under the seat of the bike, which turned out to contain marijuana, according to the officer’s report.
Milan Cimera, 20,
of Rutherford, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana on Oct. 30, at 1:40 a.m.
According to police reports, officers Jason Ingargiola and Mohammad Drubi stopped a Honda for speeding on Delawanna Avenue and when the driver opened the window the officers detected the odor of burned marijuana. The driver and passengers were asked to exit the vehicle and at that time the officers found marijuana cigarettes in the car and charged Cimera.
Laysa Sapeda, 27,
of Hackettstown, was arrested and charged with possession of crack cocaine on Oct. 29 at 11:18 p.m.
According to police reports, detectives Paul Hasselberger and Randy Colondres stopped a 1997 Saturn without working lights on Randolph Avenue. Sapeda, the driver, opened the door and the officers saw steel wool in the driver’s door, which according to police is commonly used to smoke crack cocaine. The officers questioned Sapeda and two male passengers and after finding more steel wool remnants, searched the occupants and the car. Reports show the officers found a hypodermic needle and crack cocaine on passenger Roger Albaracin, 30, of Clifton and charged him with possession of both.
Officers, reports show, also found drug paraphernalia on passenger Walter Maetsre, 28, of North Bergen, who was also charged with having six outstanding arrest warrants.
Sapeda was charged with possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia in a motor vehicle.
Carlos Amaya, 24,
of Passaic and Elvis Albuerue, 26, of Passaic, were charged with possession of marijuana on Oct. 29, at 7:13 p.m.
According to police reports, officers Stephen Berge and John Kavakich of the Street Crime Unit, approached an Infinity parked on Clinton Avenue occupied by two men. The officers detected the odor of burned marijuana and searched the car and occupants. After the officers found marijuana, they charged both men with possession of marijuana within 1,000 feet of a school, 500 feet of a park and possession with intent to distribute.
Kevin Salamanca, 25,
of Jersey City, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana on Nov. 2, at 1:18 a.m.
According to police reports, officers Darren Kester and Robert Suhey were on patrol on Ackeman Avenue and observed Salamanca driving erratically and stopped him. When Salamanca exited the vehicle, police reports show he had difficulty standing and was uncooperative, at one point trying to push the officers into oncoming traffic. Backup officers responded and took Salamanca into custody after using Chemical Mace. He was charged with possession of marijuana, eluding police and resisting arrest.
Jose Rivera, 26,
of Strasburg, Pa., and James Henderson Jr., 27, of Passaic, were charged with possession of marijuana on Nov. 3, at 11:19 p.m.
According to police reports, Officer Steven Farrell approached a parked vehicle on Foster and Wilson streets occupied by two individuals. The driver, according to police reports, appeared nervous so the officer searched the vehicle, finding marijuana.
Aggravated assault
Bryan Lore, 37,
of Clifton, was arrested and charged with assaulting a police officer on Oct. 30, at 11:18 p.m.
Detectives Stephen Berge and John Kavakich observed Lore urinating on Parker Avenue and approached him to give him a summons, but when asked for identification, Lore refused to comply, instead hitting Kavakich and using profane language. A struggle ensued and Lore was arrested and charged with assaulting police officer, disorderly conduct and urinating in public.
Obstructing and resisting,
Guadalupe Nevarro, 19,
of Passaic, was arrested and charged with obstructing justice and resisting arrest on Oct. 30 at 9:13 p.m.
According to police reports, Special Officers Avella and Eickenberg responded to Cutler Street on a report of assault with a knife and stopped a man matching the description and chased him down. The special officers observed Nevarro throw something away as he ran, which they later learned were eggs. The special officers caught up with Nevarro on Davidson Street and charged him.
Assault
A 12-year-old girl
reported being grabbed by a stranger on Oct. 30, at 4:27 p.m. as she walked near her home on Van Houten Avenue.
According to police reports, the man, between 50 and 60 years old, about 5 feet 6 inches tall, 200 pounds, speaking with an accent, a "wrinkled face" and unshaven, approached the girl, grabbed her by her jacket and pulled her toward him while speaking a foreign language. The girl, according to police reports, broke free, ran home and called police.

Scam
Police are warning
residents to beware of a scam where strangers try to enter their home while posing as utility workers after an Allwood Road 86-year-old woman was robbed.
According to police reports, on Oct. 3, at 11:15 a.m. the resident was standing in her open front door when a passerby spotted her and approached the door saying he was from the water company and needed to check on the water pressure.
Once inside the house the suspect told the victim he needed help to check and asked her to turn on faucets in the kitchen and laundry while he checked upstairs. After the man left the resident discovered a significant amount of cash had been stolen from her bedroom.
The suspect was described as wearing dark-colored work clothing, in his 50s, 5 feet 8 inches tall and white.
Burglaries
A home on
Portland Avenue was reported broken into on Oct. 24
The victim told police she noticed checkbooks, a necklace a watch and a ring were missing on Oct. 22, but believing she had misplaced them did not report it to police. On Oct. 24 she discovered additional items missing and called police.
A U-Store storage
unit on Route 46 was reported broken into between Oct. 28 and Oct. 29.
The lock had been cut from the door and cigarettes, candy and other convenience store items, worth thousands of dollars, were reported stolen.
A home on
Melody Hill Road was reported broken into on Oct. 29.
According to police reports, an open rear bedroom window was used to enter the home. The residents reported thousands of dollars worth of jewelry and cash stolen, along with digital cameras. A late model green SUV was seen parked nearby during the time the home was broken into, according to police reports.
A business on
Franklin Avenue, Apex Roofing, was reported broken into between Nov. 1 and Nov. 2.
Thousands of dollars worth of roofing equipment was reported stolen from the warehouse, according to police reports. A white truck was seen in the area loaded with supplies at about the same time, according to reports.
Thefts
Not welcomed?
Last month, a "Welcome to Athenia" sign worth $945 was reported stolen from its Van Houten and Wonham Street location. Also stolen last month was the "Welcome to Clifton" sign worth $1,375 from the Broad and Hazel streets location. The signs were on City of Clifton property.
The Sunoco
station on Crooks Avenue reported a theft of gas on Oct. 20 at 4:28 p.m.
According to police reports, a Chevrolet Tahoe, occupied by two black males, pulled into the station and asked for $50 worth of gas, then quickly left without paying.
A keg of beer
was reported stolen from the driveway of a Lennon Place home on Nov. 2 at 1:03 p.m. as residents prepared for a party. Witnesses told police three men walked up the driveway and took the beer then left the area in a black SUV.
A Russell Street resident reported $800 in cash and a bag of clothes stolen from his bedroom between Oct. 20 and Oct. 21. The victim shares the home with other tenants.
Criminal mischief
A 2000 Honda
Civic was damaged on Oct. 30 while parked on Gould Street. The passenger and driver sides were spray-painted with black paint.
A 2003 Honda
Accord had its two front tires slashed on Oct. 30, at 8:40 p.m.
Vito’s Towing
on Clifton Boulevard reported a window smashed between Oct. 31 and Nov. 1.
A 2007 Honda
wagon was reported scratched with a sharp object while parked on Hamilton Avenue, between Oct. 31 and Nov. 1.
A 2006 Chevrolet
parked in a lot on Clifton Avenue was damaged between Oct. 31 and Nov. 1. A windshield wiper was reported snapped off.
A 1996 Chevrolet had its tire slashed while parked on Ackerman Avenue between Oct. 30 and Oct. 31.
Burglaries to vehicles
A 2002 BMW
was reported broken into while parked in the Appleblees parking lot on Oct. 28.
A laptop computer and a GPS were reported stolen after the rear window was smashed.
A 1997 Chrysler
Town & Country was reported broken into while parked on DeMott Avenue on Oct. 29.
A camera and DVDs were reported stolen.
A 2006 Hyundai
Santa Fe was reported broken into on Oct. 29 while parked in the Century Buffet parking lot at 166 Main Ave.
A window was smashed and a laptop computer reported stolen.
A 2004 Audi
was reported broken into on Oct. 29 while parked in the New York Sports Club parking lot on Main Avenue.
A briefcase containing a laptop computer and computer equipment was reported stolen after a window was smashed.
A 2007 Land
Rover was reported broken into while parked in the New York Sports Club parking lot on Main Avenue on Oct. 29
A laptop, an MP3 player and a checkbook were reported stolen after a window was shattered.
A 2008 Lexus
was reported broken into while parked on Sylvan Avenue between Nov. 1 and Nov. 2.
An iPod was reported stolen after the car’s door lock was punched. The car’s owner manual was also reported stolen.
Police have arrested
and charged Junior Dinis-Ferreira, 25 of Belleville, for breaking into an unmarked police car and stealing a number of items on Aug. 27.
According to police reports, detective Randy Colondres was working security at Pub 46 on Route 46 and parked the unmarked 1995 Ford Crown Victoria in the lot. When he returned he found the car had been broken into. Through video surveillance, detective Robert Tillie arrested and charged Ferreira with the crime. During questioning, Ferreira admitted to breaking into the car, according to police reports. He was charged with theft and burglary and held on $15,000 bail.
DWI
Yurani Daboada-Delahoz, 22
, of Paterson, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI) on Oct. 25 at 3:31 a.m.
Officer Luis Reza and Nicholas Riczov had responded to Lexington Avenue and East Russell Street on a report of a motor vehicle accident, and while they were speaking with the drivers, Delahoz crashed into the police vehicle, according to police reports.
While speaking with Delahoz, the officers detected signs of intoxication and administered field sobriety tests, which she was unable to complete and was arrested. She was taken to police headquarters where she was charged with DWI after posting a .16 on the breath alcohol test. (Results of .08 and higher show legal intoxication.)
She was also given a summons for careless driving.
Joel Rosario, Jr., 53,
of Jersey City, was arrested and charged with DWI on Oct. 28, at 11:43 p.m.
According to police reports, witnesses informed the officer that Rosario was speeding on Route 3 west and struck a utility pole at Route 3 and Route 46. The Fire Department responded and removed Rosario from his vehicle and transported him to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson where blood was tested and he was charged with DWI.
He was also issued summonses for driving without insurance and without a license.
Isaac Williams, 51,
of Passaic, was arrested and charged with DWI on Oct. 29, at 4:14 p.m.
Officers Joshin Smith and Wilfredo Ramirez stopped Williams for driving carelessly on Route 21 south and while speaking with him detected signs of intoxication. Following failed field sobriety tests, Williams was arrested and transported to police headquarters where he was charged with DWI after posting a .22 on the breath alcohol test. He was also issued a careless driving summons.
Joseph Pridmore, 40,
of Hoboken, was arrested and charged with DWI on Oct. 29 at 9:26 p.m.
Officers Favio Toyos and Juan Velez responded Route 3 west near Bloomfield Avenue on a report of a motor vehicle accident. At the scene the officers detected signs of intoxication while speaking with Pridmore, and following failed field sobriety tests he was arrested and transported to police headquarters where he refused to submit to the breath test, according to police reports. He was charged with DWI and refusal to test. He was given a summons for driving with a suspended driver’s license.
Francisco Gonzalez, 53
, of Clifton, was arrested and charged with DWI on Oct. 30, at 3:17 p.m.
According to police reports, Officer David Petrillo was flagged down on Main Avenue at Main and Piaget avenues by a motorist who reported a car stopped in the middle of the road with the driver not moving. The officer approached and found Gonzalez asleep behind the wheel. The officer woke him up and while speaking to him detected signs of intoxication and administered roadside sobriety tests, which reports show Gonzalez failed. He was arrested and transported to police headquarters
Carlos Grullon, 37,
of Paterson was arrested and charged with DWI on Nov. 1, 12:53 a.m.
According to police reports, officers responded to Route 21 south on a report of a motor vehicle accident. Officer Darren Brodie asked the driver if he was injured, but Grullon was not able to respond to questions and failed field sobriety tests. He was arrested and charged with DWI after posting a .14 on the breath alcohol test.
He was also given a summons for improper passing and careless driving.
Shoplifting
Heather Serrano, 22,
of Kearny, was arrested and charged with shoplifting a sweater and earrings from Kohl’s store on Main Avenue on Oct. 27.
According to police reports, the store security officer observed Serrano take the items and attempt to leave the store without paying.
Orlando Pena, 33,
of Passaic, was arrested and charged with shoplifting four bottles of Aleve painkillers from the Pathmark on Ackerman Avenue, on Oct. 29.
According to police reports, store security observed Pena attempting to leave without paying for the items.
Deran Stenborg, 36,
of Wallington, was arrested and charged with shoplifting from the CVS on Allwood Road on Oct. 29.
According to police reports, store security observed Stenborg place a number of items in his pockets and attempted to leave the store without paying.
Stolen vehicles
A 2005 Ford
van was reported stolen on Oct. 28 while parked in a lot on Scoles Avenue.
A 2005 Mitsubishi box truck was reported stolen by Epic Car Rental on Lexington Avenue on Nov. 3. The truck was rented and was scheduled to be returned on Nov. 1. It was not returned and no payments received, according to police reports.
Recovered stolen vehicles
A 2002 Infinity
reported stolen in Clifton on Oct. 20 was found in Paterson on Oct. 28.
