The Clifton gymnastics team pulled out another victory as the month of October drew to a close with a 76 to 61.85 victory over Elizabeth last week.
The Mustangs garnered first place spots in each event including the all-around.
On the vault, Donnalayha Cook earned an average 8.05 for first followed with Stephanie Cornejo’s 7.6 for third. Meghan Ortiz-Pacheco was close behind with a 7.4 and Chelsea Gurley a 7.35.
The uneven bars were won by Cook who averaged a 4.425 as Gurley took second with a 4.075 average. Cornejo had scores of 3.8 and 3.6.
Clifton finished one, two, three on the balance beam in dominating fashion.
Cook was first with her 6.875 average followed by second place Gurley with 6.6 and Maritza Domenack in third with a 6.125 average. Cornejo was a close fourth with a 6.025.
The floor exercise was perhaps the most highly contested event of the afternoon as both squads averaged in the high sixes. Gurley was tops with her 8.05 average as second and third were taken by Elizabeth’s Jocelyn Coral’s 6.825 and Kathleen Redeno’s 6.775.
Domenack was close behind with her 6.6 average as Melissa Petrina had scores of 6.6 and 6.4 for a 6.5 average. Kaitlyn McCracken totaled a 6.05.
The all-around was won by Gurley who had a total of 26.075 compared to second place Cook’s 25.325.
On Monday, Clifton participated in the Passaic County Championships and took fifth with a total of 83.15 points. Passaic Valley won the title with a 104.8. At the NNJIGL Championships on Oct. 24, Cook had an 8.0 on the vault and Gabriella Cruz garnered an 8.15 as Clifton finished in the sixth spot with a 79.775.
Cornejo had a 7.5, Gurley a 7.4 and Megan Miller a 7.05. Pascack Regional won with 111.625 points.
