Mary Kowal
CLIFTON Services were held for Mary T. Witas Kowal, 93, of Passaic, who died on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008. She was the mother of William and Donald, both of this city.
Services were at the Shook Funeral Home, Clifton, followed by Mass at Holy Rosary R.C. Church, Passaic. Interment was at St. Michael’s Cemetery, South Hackensack.
Five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive Mrs. Kowal.
Her husband, John and her sister, Anna Bibik, predeceased her.
Ralph Andreotta
CLIFTON Services were held for Ralph Andreotta, 86, of this city, who died on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008.
Mr. Andreotta was a lifelong resident of Clifton. He was a letter carrier with the Clifton Post Office for 28 years. Also, he was a parishioner of Sacred Heart R.C. Church, Clifton, where he served as an usher for many years.
Services were at the Marrocco Memorial Chapel, Clifton, followed by Mass at Sacred Heart R.C. Church. Entombment was at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Saddle Brook.
His son, Ralph, of Parsippany, survives Mr. Andreotta.
His wife, the former Emma Marchioni, predeceased him.
Frank Muzik Jr.
CLIFTON Services were held for Frank Muzik Jr., 85, of Savannah, Ga., who died on Friday, Sept. 19, 2008. He was a former resident of this city.
Mr. Muzik lived in Garfield, Clifton, West Paterson, and Denville before moving to Savannah.
Services were at the Vander May Wayne Colonial Funeral Home, Wayne, followed by entombment at Garden of Memories Mausoleum, Washington Township. Donations may be sent to the Skidway Island Presbyterian Church, 50 Diamond Causeway, Savannah, Ga. 31411 or to the Hospice of Savannah, 1674 Chatham Parkway, Savannah, Ga. 31405.
His wife, the former Evelyn Sienon; his daughter, Jeanie Crone; his son, Douglas; and his sister, Lorraine Bremer, survive Mr. Muzik.
Helen Van Mierth
CLIFTON Services were held for Helen M. Donohue Van Mierth, 74, of this city, who died on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008.
Born and raised in Union City, Mrs. Van Mierth lived in Lyndhurst for 20 years before moving to Clifton in 1988. She was a homemaker.
Services were at the Nazare Memorial Home, Lyndhurst, followed by entombment at Holy Cross Chapel Mausoleum, North Arlington.
Her husband, John; her son, John, of Nutley; her brother, John Donohue; and two granddaughters survive Mrs. Van Mierth.
Her son, James, predeceased her.
Charles Pocatille
CLIFTON Services were held for Charles A. Pocatille, 89, of this city, who died on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008.
Born in North Bergen, Mr. Pocatille lived in Clifton for the past 58 years. He was the senior director of financial systems and controls for Pan American Airways, New York City, where he worked for 36 years before retiring. Also, he was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a 50-year member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Clifton, where he served as elder, financial secretary, church council member, stewardship chairman, altar committeeman, and Bible class member, as well.
Services were at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the church’s Memorial Fund, 810 Broad St., Clifton, N.J. 07013.
His son, Charles, of Clifton and his sister, Dolores Grey, of San Antonio, Texas, survive Mr. Pocatille.
His wife, the former Dorothy Anderson and his brother, Melvin Polk, predeceased him.
Harry Santen
CLIFTON Services were held for Harry James Santen, 87, of this city, who died on Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008.
Born in Clifton, Mr. Santen was a lifelong resident of this city. He was a director at Singer Kearfott Co., West Paterson, where he worked for 30 years before retiring. Previously, he worked for Curtiss-Wright Co., Fairfield, for 10 years. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Clifton. He was a parishioner of St. Philip the Apostle R.C. Church, Clifton, and an honorary life member of the Regina Mundi Council of the Knights of Columbus, Clifton. He was a member of the Clifton HazMat Board from 1989 to 1996 as well.
Services were at the Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, Clifton, followed by Mass at St. Philip the Apostle R.C. Church. Interment was at Cedar Lawn Cemetery, Paterson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, N.Y. 10018.
Mr. Santen is survived by his wife, the former Eleanor Anstette; his daughters, Patricia Santen of Morris Township, Barbara Ramondini of Long Valley, Karen Kenzik of Wayne, and Diane McKeown of Verona; his son, Robert, of Morris Township; 10 grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
His brother, Raymond, predeceased him.
Franciszek Szproch
CLIFTON Services were held for Franciszek Szproch, 79, of this city, who died on Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008.
Born in Poland, Mr. Szproch came to the United States in 1968 and lived in Passaic before moving to Clifton more than 30 years ago. He was a tailor for Continental Custom Tailors, Clifton, for 15 years before retiring in 1987. Also, he was a parishioner of Ss. Cyril and Methodius R.C. Church, Clifton, and a member of the Catholic Sokol of Passaic.
Services were at the Shook Funeral Home, Clifton, followed by Mass at Ss. Cyril and Methodius R.C. Church. Interment was at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Saddle Brook.
Mr. Szproch is survived by his wife, the former Maria Galus; his son, Andrew, of Garfield; his daughter, Agatha, of Clifton; and his sisters, Maria Tomaskowic and Anna Krzok, both of Poland.
Flora Cairns
CLIFTON Services were held for Flora T. Rizzo Cairns, 79, of this city, who died on Friday, Sept. 26, 2008.
Born in Paterson, Mrs. Cairns lived in Clifton for the past 50 years. She was a payroll clerk for ADP, Clifton, before retiring in 1991. Also, she was a parishioner of St. Paul R.C. Church, Clifton, where she was a member of the Leisure Club and the Rosary Society. She was a member of the Totowa-Wayne Chapter of the Deborah Hospital Foundation and the St. Brendan R.C. Church AARP as well.
Services were at the Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, Clifton, followed by Mass at St. Brendan R.C. Church, Clifton. Interment was at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Totowa. Donations may be sent to the Deborah Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 820, Browns Mills, N.J. 08015-0820.
Her daughters, Deborah Ziza of Clifton, Terriann Bonadies of Richboro, Pa., and Phyllis Fleming of Clifton and six grandchildren survive Mrs. Cairns.
Her husband, Martin, predeceased her.
Rene Dhaene
CLIFTON Services were held for Rene L. Dhaene, 86, of this city, who died on Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008.
Born in Roncq, France, Mr. Dhaene came to the United States in 1929 and lived in Clifton for the past 53 years. He worked for the Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission for 25 years before retiring in 1989. Previously, he worked for the Identification Bureau of the Passaic County Sheriff’s Department. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II as well.
Services were at the Allwood Funeral Home, Clifton, followed by Mass at St. Brendan’s R.C. Church, Clifton. Interment was at Calvary Cemetery, Paterson.
His wife, the former Ella Weber; his daughters, Patricia DeCaito of Clifton, and Elaine Geers of Newton; five grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter survive Mr. Dhaene.
Charles Herrmann
CLIFTON Services were held for Charles George Herrmann, 81, of this city, who died on Friday, Sept. 26, 2008.
Born in Manhattan, Mr. Herrmann lived in Flushing, N.Y., and Jersey City before moving to Clifton in 1956. He was the purchasing manager for Mobay Chemical, Haledon, where he worked for 15 years before retiring 19 years ago. Also, he was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a parishioner of St. Andrew the Apostle R.C. Church, Clifton, where he was a member of the Holy Name Society and choir and was one of the first parishioners to be chosen as a Eucharistic minister as well.
Services were at the Shook Funeral Home, Clifton, followed by Mass at St. Andrew the Apostle R.C. Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Andrew the Apostle Church or School, 400 Mt. Prospect Ave., Clifton, N.J. 07012.
His sons, Charles of Clifton, Michael of Lake Hiawatha, and Steven of Garwood and two grandchildren survive Mr. Herrmann.
His wife, the former Mary Newman, predeceased him.
James Phillips II
CLIFTON Services were held for James Phillips II, 80, of this city, who died on Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008.
Born in Jersey City, Mr. Phillips moved to Clifton in 1957. He was a photo engraver for ITT, Clifton, before retiring in 1993. Also, he was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
Arrangements were by the Shook Funeral Home, Clifton.
His wife, the former Louise Minkus; his daughter, Janice Smith, of Pinellas Park; his sons, James and Kevin, both of Clifton; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild survive Mr. Phillips.
Dorothy Martino
CLIFTON Services were held for Dorothy Busha Martino, 87, of Passaic, who died on Friday, Sept. 26, 2008. She was a former resident of this city.
Born in Swoyersville, Pa., Mrs. Martino lived in Clifton before moving to Passaic 57 years ago. She was a seamstress making military uniforms in Pennsylvania during World War II and was employed by Platronic Seals, Clifton, for 15 years before retiring in 1977. Also, she was a parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua R.C. Church, Passaic. She was a member of the Clifton Art Association and the Happy Time Seniors as well.
Services were at the Shook Funeral Home, Clifton, followed by Mass at St. Anthony of Padua R.C. Church. Interment was at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the American Heart Association, 1 Union St., #301, Robbinsville, N.J. 08691.
Her son, Pasquale, of Passaic; her daughters, Dorothy Salerno of Clifton, and Theresa Farinella of Manalapan; four grandchildren; and a great-grandson survive Mrs. Martino.
She was predeceased by her husband, Pasquale; her brothers, Steven Busha, Michael Busha, and John Busha; and her sisters, Anne Horoschak, Susan Mekula, Mary Maransky, Theresa Sokolash, and Helen Rutkoski.
John Glogiewicz
CLIFTON Services were held for John S. Glogiewicz, 82, of this city, who died on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008.
Born in Passaic, Mr. Glogiewicz lived in Clifton for most of his life. He was the owner of Sautner’s Delicatessen, Passaic, for 30 years. Also, he was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a parishioner of St. Andrew’s R.C. Church, Clifton, as well. As an amateur and semipro athlete, he was a member of the Garfield, Bergen County, and Passaic County halls of fame with several championships to his credit. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Clifton, and the Tri Club as well.
Services were at the Marrocco Memorial Chapel, Clifton, followed by Mass at St. Andrew R.C. Church, Clifton. Interment was at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Saddle Brook. Donations may be sent to the American Cancer Society.
His wife, the former Florence Sautner; his daughters, Donna of Passaic, and Maryann of Basking Ridge; his son, John, of Clifton; his brothers, Joseph and Chet; and his sisters, Josephine Delekta, survive Mr. Glogiewicz.
His daughter, Leslie and his brother, Stanley, predeceased him.
Katerina Jarowoi
CLIFTON Services were held for Katerina Nikitin Jarowoi, a resident of this city, who died on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008.
Born in the Ukraine, Mrs. Jarowoi came to Passaic in 1958 and lived in Somerset before moving to Clifton in 1991. She was a production line worker for Nabisco Inc., Fair Lawn, for 25 years before retiring in 1984.
Services were at the Lakeview Memorial Home, Clifton, followed by interment at Laurel Grove Cemetery, Totowa.
Her daughters, Gina Starke and Janina Kluchiwsky; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren survive Mrs. Jarowoi.
Her husband, Paul, predeceased her.
Maria Lelo
CLIFTON Services were held for Maria Polanski Lelo, 80, of Passaic, who died on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2008. She was the mother of Marian of this city.
Services were Wednesday, Sept. 24 at the Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, Clifton, followed by mass at St. Nicholas U.C. Church, Passaic. Interment was at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Saddle Brook. Donations may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association, 450 Morris Ave., Suite 251, Denville, N.J. 07834.
Mrs. Lelo also is survived by her husband, Dymitr; her other son, Andrew, of Salisbury Mills, N.Y.; and five grandchildren.
