Oliver Holmes
CLIFTON Services were held for Oliver Wendell Holmes, 74, of Paterson, who died on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2008. He was a former resident of this city.
Born in Clifton, Mr. Holmes lived in the Clifton and Paterson area for most of his life. He worked for Curtiss-Wright Flight Systems of Caldwell and for Pantasote Co., formerly of Passaic, before retiring. A U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War, he was a member of Disabled American Veterans Post #2, Clifton.
Arrangements were by the Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, Clifton.
Mr. Holmes is survived by his daughters, Kathleen Quigley of West Milford, and Deborah Horn of Lincoln Park; his former wife, the former Rosalie Aliotti; his brothers, Harold of Little Egg Harbor, and Emberton of Woodbridge, Va.; and five grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents, Horace and Jennie; and his brothers, Horace and George.
Robert Santero
CLIFTON Services were held for Robert Santero, 77, of Elmwood Park, who died on Friday, Sept. 12, 2008. He was the father of Karla Ippolito of this city.
Services were at the Patrick J. Conte Funeral Home, Elmwood Park, followed by Mass at St. Leo’s R.C. Church, Elmwood Park. Interment was at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus.
His mother, Mary, of Elmwood Park and two granddaughters also survive Mr. Santero.
His wife, the former Louise Cupo and his brother, Peter, predeceased him.
Helen Hoffman
CLIFTON Services were held for Helen L. Robinson Hoffman, 80, of this city, who died on Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008.
Born in Passaic, Mrs. Hoffman was a lifelong resident of this city.
Services were at the Shook Funeral Home, Clifton, followed by interment at Calvary Cemetery, Paterson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the American Cancer Society.
Her daughter, Lucille Ragusa, of California; her sons, Howard and Vincent, of Clifton; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren survive Mrs. Hoffman.
Her husband, Howard and her daughter, Joan, predeceased her.
John Rembisz
CLIFTON Services were held for John Rembisz, 57, of Somerset, who died on Wednesday, August 13, 2008. He was a former resident of this city.
Born in Passaic, Mr. Rembisz lived in Clifton and Ohio before moving to Somerset.
Arrangements were by the Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, Clifton.
His mother, Katherine, of Clifton, survives Mr. Rembisz.
His father, Theodore, predeceased him.
Rose Tomasella
CLIFTON Services were held for Rose Coan Tomasella, 79, of Little Falls, who died on Friday, Sept. 12, 2008. She was a former resident of this township.
Born in Passaic, Mrs. Tomasella lived in Clifton before moving to Little Falls 25 years ago. She was an employee of Forstmann Woolen Mills, Garfield. Also, she was a parishioner of Sacred Heart R.C. Church, Clifton. She was a member of the Cordial Women’s Club, Clifton, as well.
Services were at the Marrocco Memorial Chapel, Clifton, followed by Mass at Sacred Heart R.C. Church. Entombment was at Calvary Cemetery, Paterson.
Mrs. Tomasella is survived by her husband, Louis; her sons, Frank of Millstone Township, and Thomas of Boonton Township; her daughter, Lisa, of Cedar Grove; her brother, Joseph Coan, of West Paterson; her sister, Clara Zava, of Marreno DiPiave, Italy; and eight grandchildren.
Her brother, Louis, predeceased her.
Robert Motta
CLIFTON Services were held for Robert Motta, 80, of this city, who died on Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008.
Mr. Motta was a certified public accountant for several firms as well as a sole practitioner before retiring in 1992. Also, he was an adjunct professor of accounting, a CPA exam grader, a member of the New Jersey Society of CPAs, and a former president of the Passaic County Chapter. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a former member of a local bank’s board of directors. A parishioner of St. Andrew R.C. Church, he was a member of the Holy Name Society and the Knights of Columbus, as well as a president of the Home and School Association of St. Andrew School. And, he was a former president of the Clifton High School Mustang Band Parents Association and treasurer of Sag-A-Bits, a Clifton High School alumni association.
Services were at the Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, Clifton, followed by Mass at St. Andrew the Apostle R.C. Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the New Jersey Animal Rights Alliance, P.O. Box 174, Englishtown, N.J. 07726 or to the St. Andrew School Library, 418 Mt. Prospect Ave., Clifton, N.J. 07012.
Mr. Motta is survived by his wife, the former Zita DeLucia; his sons, Christopher of Pompton Plains, and Gregory of Clifton; his daughters, Janine Motta of Manalapan, and Aimee Perella of Huntington, Vt.; his sister, June Baba, of San Carlos, Calif.; and three grandchildren.
Benjamin Peluso
CLIFTON Services were held for Benjamin Peluso, 93, of this city, who died on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008.
Mr. Peluso was a 34-year veteran of the Clifton Police Department, serving as a patrolman and retiring as a detective before subsequently working for the Passaic County Prosecutors Office. Also, he was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving as a medic. He was a parishioner and usher at Sacred Heart R.C. Church, Clifton, and a member of the Immaculata Council Knights of Columbus, Clifton, as well.
Arrangements were by the Marrocco Memorial Chapel, Clifton. Interment was at Calvary Cemetery, Paterson.
His sisters, Florence Grecco and Josephine Specht survive Mr. Peluso, both of Clifton.
His brothers, Donald, Gene, and Ralph and his sister, Margaret Peluso, predeceased him.
Georgette Vander Meulen
CLIFTON Services were held for Georgette Schamble Vander Meulen, 81, of West Milford, who died on Monday, Sept. 15, 2008. She was the sister of James Schamble of this city.
Services were at the Browning-Forshay Funeral Home, Hawthorne, followed by interment at Fair Lawn Cemetery, Fair Lawn.
Mrs. Vander Meulen also is survived by her daughters, Debra Perin of West Milford, and Carolyn Vander Meulen of Salisbury, Md.; her son, George, of Oak Ridge; her brother, Russell Schamble, of St. Augustine, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Martin, predeceased her.
Olga Sartoga
CLIFTON Services were held for Olga Kopack Sartoga, 82, of this city, who died on Monday, Sept. 15, 2008.
Mrs. Sartoga was a lifelong resident of Clifton. She was a homemaker.
Interment was at East Ridgelawn Cemetery, Clifton. Donations may be sent to the MDA/ALS Research Center, 710 W. 168th St., New York, N.Y. 10032.
Her daughter, Susan; her son, Thomas; and a granddaughter survive Mrs. Sartoga.
Her husband, John, predeceased her.
Mario DeVita
CLIFTON Services were held for Mario DeVita, 88, of West Paterson, who died on Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008. He was a former resident of this city.
Born in Rome, Italy, Mr. DeVita came to the United States in 1955 and lived in Clifton before moving to West Paterson in 1964. He was the owner of Mario’s Trading Post, Passaic, for 30 years. Also, he was an Italian Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Italian American Family Association, Clifton, as well.
Services were Thursday, Sept. 18 at the Marrocco Memorial Chapel, Clifton, followed by Mass at Sacred Heart R.C. Church, Clifton. Interment was at Calvary Cemetery, Paterson.
His wife, the former Ann Mulick; his daughter, Rita DeRoos, of West Paterson; and a grandson survive Mr. DeVita.
Minnie Campbell
CLIFTON Services were held for Minnie A. Campbell, 77, of Vero Beach, Fla., who died on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2008. She was the sister of Rebecca Martin of this city.
Services were at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church, Vero Beach. Arrangements were by the Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home, Vero Beach. Donations may be sent to the Knights of Columbus, c/o St. John of the Cross Catholic Church, 7550 26th St., Vero Beach, Fla. 32966.
Mrs. Campbell also is survived by her husband, Bill; her daughter, Eileen Harriet, of Tempe, Ariz.; her sons, Robert of Lenexa, Kan., Edward of State Road, N.C., and Glen of Vero Beach; her brother, David Erlichman, of Passaic; her other sister, Fran Martin, of Deerfield, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Lenore Rodriguez
CLIFTON Services were held for Lenore Zisa Rodriguez, 46, of Garfield, who died on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008. She was a former resident of this city.
Born in Passaic, Mrs. Rodriguez lived in Clifton before moving to Garfield in 2001. She was a jewelry salesperson at Garden State Plaza, Paramus.
Services were at the Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, Clifton.
Mrs. Rodriguez is survived by her children, Nino Santiago of Clifton, Antonio Santiago of Japan, and Jennelle Rodriguez of Garfield; her mother, Vivian Valorani, of Rancho Mirage, Calif.; and her father, Thomas Zisa, of Paterson.
Michael Matosian Jr.
CLIFTON Services were held for Michael Matosian Jr., 54, of this city, who died on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008.
Born in Paterson, Mr. Matosian moved to Clifton in 1965. He was a music composer.
Services were at the Shook Funeral Home, Clifton, followed by entombment at Laurel Grove Memorial Park, Totowa.
His parents, Michael and Florence, of Roselle Park; his brother, James, of Clifton; and his sister, Roseann Core, of Cranford, survive Mr. Matosian.
Sigmund Niejadlik
CLIFTON Services were held for Sigmund W. Niejadlik, a resident of this city, who died on Friday, Sept. 19, 2008.
Born in Garfield, Mr. Niejadlik lived in Passaic before moving to Clifton more than 60 years ago. He worked for Poughkeepsie Finishing Co., Clifton, before retiring. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7165, Clifton, and Rosol Dul American Legion Post 359, Passaic. He was a parishioner of St. Philip the Apostle R.C. Church, Clifton, where he was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 11671 as well.
Services were at the Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, Clifton, followed by Mass at St. Philip the Apostle R.C. Church, Clifton. Interment was at St. Michael’s Cemetery, South Hackensack. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, Ohio 45250-0301, attn: gift processing, or to the Hospice of New Jersey, 400 Broadacres Dr., Bloomfield, N.J. 07003.
His wife, the former Julia Kwiatek; his sons, Ronald of Whiting, and John of Clifton; his daughter, Arlene Grieb, of Clifton; his sister, Helen Della Penta, of Lodi; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren survive Mr. Niejadlik.
His brother, Fred and a grandson predeceased him.
Anthony Gordon
CLIFTON Services were held for Anthony Gordon, 59, of this city, who died on Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008.
Born in Passaic, Mr. Gordon was a lifelong resident of Clifton. He was a mechanical engineer with EDC Inc., Mahwah, for many years. Also, he was a parishioner of St. John Kanty R.C. Church, Clifton.
Services were at the Shook Funeral Home, Clifton, followed by Mass at St. John Kanty R.C. Church. Interment was at St. Nicholas Cemetery, Lodi.
His brother, Raymond, of Clifton, survives Mr. Gordon.
His parents, Anthony and Genevieve and his brother, Michael, predeceased him.
Doris Vanish
CLIFTON Services were held for Doris Petrilak Vanish, 96, of Lakewood, who died on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008. She was a former resident of this city.
Born in Greenfield Township, Pa., Mrs. Vanish lived in Clifton for 65 years before moving to Lakewood three years ago. She worked at the Clifton High School cafeteria for several years before retiring 20 years ago. Also, she was a parishioner of Assumption of the Holy Virgin Orthodox Church, Clifton, where she was a member of the church’s Altar Society, and a member of the St. John Kanty Leisure Club.
Services were at the Shook Funeral Home, Clifton, followed by Mass at Assumption of the Holy Virgin Orthodox Church. Interment was at East Ridgelawn Cemetery, Clifton.
Her daughters, Marian Klecha of Kinnelon, and Vicki Hallock of Brick; her brother, Andrew Petrilak, of Greenfield Township; six grandsons; and four great-grandchildren survive Mrs. Vanish.
Her husband, Peter and her daughter, Irene "Renee" Wolchko, predeceased her.
Mary Ann Lovas
CLIFTON Services were held for Mary Ann Sudsky Lovas, 92, of Annandale, who died on Friday, Sept. 19, 2008. She was a former resident of this city.
Born in New York City, Mrs. Lovas lived in Clifton for 52 years before moving to Annandale. She was a parishioner of St. Mary’s R.C. Church, Passaic.
Services were at the Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, Clifton, followed by Mass at St. Mary’s R.C. Church. Interment was at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Saddle Brook. Donations may be sent to Meals on Wheels in Hunterdon, 5 Walter Foran Blvd., Suite 2006, Flemington, N.J. 08822.
Her son, Joseph, of Hampton; her brother, Jack Sudsky, of Toms River; her sisters, Ella Boturla and Anne Kossuth, both of Clifton; six grandsons; and four great-grandchildren survive Mrs. Lovas.
Her husband, Joseph and her son, William, predeceased her.
