Scam
An 88-year-old Roosevelt
Avenue resident was the victim of a scam on Sept. 2, at 10:13 a.m.
According to police reports, the woman answered her door and was told by a white male wearing a work shirt and work pants, that he had looked up at her house and seen her gutters were broken. The man, according to police reports, asked the woman to follow him so she could take a look at the damage. The woman became suspicious, told the man to leave and shut the door. Reports show the woman then went to the basement to secure the basement rear door and while looking out of the window saw the man walking around in her yard. After the stranger left, the woman went upstairs and found someone had entered her home and taken $130 in cash and jewelry.
According to police reports, the victim could not remember whether she had locked the front door when she went to the basement. The police theorized that the man in the yard saw the woman behind the window and alerted an accomplice to enter the house through the front door.

Underage drinking
Cesar Suarez-Sarate, 20,
of Passaic, was charged with underage possession of alcoholic beverages on Aug. 29, at 11:50 p.m.
According to police reports, detective Randy Colondres, in plain clothes, was patrolling Hope Avenue when he observed Sarate walking with two others and carrying a plastic bag containing a 12-pack of beer.
Shoplifting
Diego Caivinagua, 33,
of Belleville, was arrested and charged with shoplifting assorted clothing worth $157 from the Sports Authority on Sept. 8.
Store security stopped him after observing him place the items in a bag and trying to leave the store without paying.
Carmelo Alamo, 44,
of Passaic, and Orlando Pena, 32, of Passaic were arrested and charged with shoplifting women’s curling irons for hair from the Rite Aid drug store on Clifton Avenue on Sept. 9 at 3:56 p.m.
According to police reports, the two men left the store and were stopped by Clifton Police Officer Franco Graziadio as they were driving away from the store.
The officer searched the vehicle and recovered the stolen Rite Aid items as well as batteries from Pena that had been reported stolen from the Walgreens in Clifton. Both men were charged with shoplifting, Pena was also charged with possession of stolen property and Alamo was also charged with having an outstanding warrant.
Jennifer Powel, 30,
of Lyndhurst, was arrested and charged with shoplifting Playstation games, electric toothbrushes, and other items worth a total of $1,149 from Kohl’s department store on Main Avenue on Sept. 11.
According to police reports, Powel had her 2-year-old daughter with her and told the arresting officer that her children needed the items and that she planned to sell some of the other items for money.
Stolen vehicle
A 1997 Nissan Altima was reported stolen from Pleasant Avenue and Walnut Street on Sept. 10.
Recovered stolen vehicles
A 1999 Honda
Civic reported stolen in Clifton on Aug. 6 was found in Paterson on Sept. 8.
A 1999 Honda
Civic reported stolen in Clifton on Aug. 30 was found in Paterson on Sept. 10.
A freightliner truck
reported stolen in Clifton on Aug. 12 was found in Englewood on Sept. 10.
A 1998 Infinity reported stolen in Clifton on Sept. 6 was found in Newark on Sept. 11.
Attempted burglary
A 1990 Oldsmobile Cutlass parked on South Parkway was damaged in an attempted burglary on Sept. 9 at 5:50 a.m. The car owner’s son exited the house to walk his dog and saw a man in his father’s car, reports show. When the man yelled out to the suspect, he fled the area in a nearby-parked Oldsmobile operated by another driver. The Cutlass’ driver side lock had been punched out to gain access.
Burglary to vehicles
A 1997 Honda
Civic was reported broken into on Sept. 9 while parked in the LaQuinta parking lot on Route 3 east.
An iPod and a laptop computer and its case were reported stolen. The victim, a resident of Bloomfield, had parked there momentarily and when she returned found the window had been kicked in.
A 2006 Chrysler was reported broken into while parked on Route 3 west in the parking lot of Michael’s craft store on Sept. 9 at 3:52 p.m. A laptop computer was reported stolen.
Criminal mischief
The front glass door of the Applebees Restaurant at Clifton Commons on Route 3 was reported smashed on Sept. 11. An outdoor condiment cabinet door was also broken but nothing was reported stolen.
Drugs
Ranjit Guiran, 23,
of Miami, Fla., was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana on Sept. 9, at 9:13 p.m.
According to police reports, officers Rocco Locantore and Joshin Smith stopped a 2002 Nissan Altima operated by Guiran for disregarding a traffic signal. As the officers approached the car they observed Guiran making furtive movements and found him with his hand under the driver’s seat. When questioned about what he was doing, reports indicate Guiran said he had marijuana under the seat. The officers retrieved the marijuana from the area and charged him with possession of marijuana and possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle. He was also issued a summons for having a suspended driver’s license.
Lawremce Mitchell, 33,
of Passaic, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana on Sept. 10, at 2:54 a.m.
According to police reports, officers Robert Anderson and Joseph Pichnarcik stopped Mitchell for failing to stop at a stop sign on Passaic Avenue. While questioning him, the officers detected the odor of burned marijuana and asked him to exit the vehicle. Reports show the officers discovered marijuana in a bag concealed in the vehicle’s dashboard along with cigars, commonly used to make blunts or marijuana cigars.
Mitchell was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle. He was also charged with driving with a suspended driver’s license and several other motor vehicle moving violations.
William Rhodes, 21,
of Paterson, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana on Sept. 13, at 2:02 a.m.
According to police reports, officers Steve Maza and Mohammad Droubi responded to the AMC Theater in Clifton Commons on a report of three individuals causing a commotion inside Theater 8.
The officers arrived and found Rhodes, another male and a female causing the commotion. According to police records, the woman, Amanda Bolmer, 24, of Paterson, attempted to conceal a bottle of brandy when she saw the officers.
Many customers complained that the three were loud and had been throwing popcorn at other patrons, causing many to leave and others to become angry, according to police reports.
The officers searched the three and found a bag of marijuana in Rhodes’ possession and charged him with possession of marijuana. Bolmer was charged with drinking in public.
Francisco Francis, 20,
of Belleville, was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia while in a motor vehicle on Sept. 12, at 1:10 a.m.
According to police reports, officers Steven Maza and Mohammad Droubi stopped Francis for speeding on Virginia Avenue. While questioning him, the officers detected signs of intoxication and in a search of the vehicle, located a crack pipe, four glassine envelopes containing heroin, three glass jars containing cocaine, a measuring spoon and crack cocaine, according to police reports.
Francis was given motor vehicle summonses for careless driving and driving with a suspended driver’s license and was charged with possession of a hypodermic needle, drug paraphernalia, possession of controlled dangerous substances (CDS) and possession of CDS in a motor vehicle.
False information
Michael Marrero, 20,
of Garfield, was arrested and charged with having an open alcoholic beverage container in a motor vehicle on Sept. 11, at 2:31 a.m.
According to police reports, Officer Scott Gibson stopped Marrero for speeding and reaching speeds of 90 mph while driving on Route 46 west.
While questioning Marrero, the officer detected the odor of alcoholic beverages and asked the driver and occupants to exit the vehicle. When questioned, the driver told the officer his name was Raul Ortiz, but after the occupants, who were questioned separately, told the officer the driver’s name was Marrero.
Marrero, when confronted revealed his true identity and was charged with giving false information to a police officer, hindering his apprehension and having an open container of an alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle. He also received a summons for reckless driving. Marrero’s vehicle was towed away and passengers Oscar Giorgi, 21, of Garfield and Anthony Fiorillo, 25, of Garfield, were both charged with consumption of alcoholic beverages in a motor vehicle.
Marrero was also charged with having an outstanding warrant.
Jesus Torres, 26,
of Hackensack, was arrested and charged with hindering apprehension by giving police false information on Sept. 12, at 12:31 a.m.
According to police reports, Officer Scott Gibson stopped a 2005 Nissan Altima on Crooks Avenue after the driver threw a cigarette out of the window. When questioned, the driver told the officer his name was Amir Daniel Torres, but when confronted by the officers, he revealed his true identity.
He was also charged with having an outstanding warrant.
DWI
Noe Mozo-Sanchez, 35, of Passaic, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI) on Sept. 12, at 3:33 a.m.
According to police reports, Officer Darren Kester observed a vehicle stopped at the intersection of Main and Harding avenues even though the traffic signal was green. The officer approached and found the driver asleep behind the wheel and detected signs of intoxication. After waking Sanchez, the officer administered roadside sobriety tests and arrested him after he was unable to complete the tasks. At police headquarters Sanchez was charged with DWI after posting a .16 on his breath alcohol test. (Results of .08 and higher show legal intoxication.)
Sanchez was also issue summonses for driving without a license and failure to observe a traffic signal.
Gennaro Santana, 23, of Clifton, was arrested and charged with DWI on Sept. 13, at 3:16 a.m.
According to police reports, Officer Darren Kester observed a Toyota Camry operated by Santana come close to striking several parked cars on Lexington and Highland avenues and pulled him over. While speaking with Santana, the officer detected the odor of alcoholic beverages and saw an open bottle of whisky in the vehicle. Santana was arrested after being unable to complete field sobriety tests and was charged with DWI at headquarters after posting a score of .17 on the breath alcohol test.
He was issued a summons for having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle as well as careless driving.
Jose Rodriguez, 43, of Clifton, was arrested and charged with DWI on Sept. 13 at 2:41 a.m.
According to police reports, officers Jason Ingargiola and Robert Domski stopped a 1999 Ford Contour operated by Rodriguez on Piaget and Howd avenues for driving in the wrong lane and swerving, almost striking the police car. Rodriguez stopped his vehicle and drove in reverse, almost striking the officers as they approached his vehicle, according to police records. The officers stopped the vehicle and took the keys out of the ignition. While questioning Rodriguez, the officers detected signs of intoxication and administered field sobriety tests. Rodriguez was arrested when unable to complete the roadside tests.
The officers transported Rodriguez to police headquarters where he was charged with DWI after posting a .13 on the breath alcohol test.
Juan Flores-Jazquez, 29, of Passaic, was arrested and charged with DWI on Sept. 12, at 9:13 p.m.
According to police reports, officers Samuel Skidmore and Daniel Telofski reported to Route 21 south at exit 13 on a report of a motor vehicle accident.
At the scene the officers found Flores-Jazquez attempting to push a black plastic bag under the guard rail as his 1993 GMC was stopped nearby with significant damage and three flat tires.
The officers inspected the car and found a green plastic mug containing an alcoholic beverage along with an open bottle of tequila.
The officers administered roadside tests, which Flores-Jazquez was unable to complete. He was arrested and transported to police headquarters where he was charged with DWI and refusal to test after he was unable to take the breath alcohol test due to vomiting. He was also given summonses for being unlicensed and for reckless driving.
Errol Wilson, 37, of Paterson, was arrested and charged with DWI on Sept. 11, at 9:20 p.m.
According to police reports, Officer Favio Toyos reported to Route 3 west on a report of a motor vehicle accident. At the scene the officer detected signs of intoxication while speaking to Wilson and administered roadside sobriety tests. Wilson was arrested when he was unable to complete the field tests, and was charged with DWI when he posted a .13 on the breath alcohol test at police headquarters.
Michael Krivak, 56, of South Orange, was arrested and charged with DWI on Sept. 11, at 8 p.m.
According to police reports, officers Kasey Kida and Thomas Buell responded to Bloomfield Avenue on a report of a possible DWI.
At the scene the officers were told by witnesses that a man in a 1992 Chevy Geo had struck several parked cars and had left the scene. The officers stopped Krivak on Bloomfield Avenue at Route 3 and while questioning him detected signs of intoxication.
After failing roadside sobriety tests, Krivak was arrested and transported to police headquarters where he was charged with DWI after posting a .29 on the breath alcohol test. He was also charged with leaving the scene of an accident and given a summons for careless driving.
