Where is the taskforce?
Did you know we had a Clifton Graffiti Taskforce? Well, we do. It conjures up a vision of an elite group of highly trained professionals ready at a moment's notice, day or night, to spring into action and immediately eliminate any vestige of graffiti left anywhere in the city, doesn't it? If that were only true.
From personal experience, the reality is it can take months for the City to respond to repeated reports of graffiti even when our kids' playground equipment in City parks have been tagged. Also, it can take repeated trips by the DPW before they finally get the job done right. Perhaps if the administration and City workers got the job done right the first time, we'd need fewer people to do the same amount of work and our tax bills wouldn't be so high.

Ask renters too
This is a comment in response to the article in the Friday, Aug. 29, paper regarding the new recreation center.
Why is Clifton only asking property owners if a new rec center should be built? Is it the belief of the City Council that renters do not make use of the center? Or perhaps it is their belief that renters don't care how the city spends its money?
People who rent should have a say too!

Obama doesn’t know
The Barack Obama administration's education policy will be to mandate fluency in a language other than English for all our kids. Obama has actually said he's more concerned about our kids learning Spanish than about immigrants, legal or otherwise, learning English.
From where, in our already diverse, multi-cultural curriculum will they find the time to achieve this? I guess they'll just cut back more on old-fashioned things such as Mathematics, Science, American History, English Literature and Civics. And, who decides which foreign language our kids must learn? In Obama's utopian socialism it's the state that knows best.

Democrats are a joke
Well, I've listened and watched the sermon from the mount by the Messiah, Barack Obama. I can only say it reminded me of an oldie "It Seems To Me I've Heard That Song Before." Wasn't it the Pelosi message of 2006 that professed change? What'd we get? An increase in the minimum wage (good); a four-day work week for the House of Representatives (bad); a five-week vacation during an energy crisis (bad); triple digit cost for a barrel of oil (bad); a housing crisis (bad); unemployment jumping a half point (bad) and it goes on and on. The Democrats brag about Clinton leaving office with the country having a surplus. True. However, this surplus came about with increased taxes, a cut in defense appropriations and massive, troop reductions. Now these same Democrats complain that our troops are strained that we need increases across the board and even talking about reinstitution the draft. These guys are a joke. Give me a break.

Talking of idiots
Anyone, who after eight years of the lies, corruption and incompetent bungling of the (George) Bush administration still supports the right-wing neo-conservative agenda by voting for John McCain has got to be a freaking idiot plain and simple.
Anyone who really believes like McCain does that offshore oil drilling will dramatically bring down gas prices and free us from our dependency on foreign oil must be a freaking idiot plain and simple.
Anyone, who like McCain calls keeping our soldiers in unnecessary harm’s way by continuing a failing policy in Iraq supporting the troops is definitely a freaking idiot plain and simple.
(Frederick) Rembis, (John) Nick, (Joseph) Sidor and (Frank) Warholic – you are definitely some of the most ignorant and misguided thinkers that I have ever had the displeasure of being exposed to. Because we live in such a violent, selfish, greedy and conformist capitalist culture the Republicans seem to appeal to the country’s lowest common denominator very effectively. As a people, Americans have forgotten that we are a nation founded on progressive revolution and have become far too vulnerable to fascistic ideas and policies.

Good deed
I lost my house keys. I was so worried where I lost them and about an hour later this nice young man came to my door and said, Are these your keys? Oh my yes and I thanked him and this restored my faith in humanity. I had lost them right in front of my house.

School before recreation
I just read in the Clifton Journal about the new rec center. Are they crazy? We need a school so badly. Kids are sitting on top of each other. They have to get their program together and think about all this garbage wanting to spend money for new stuff and not even thinking about the school any more.

What will US win?
I’m glad to see Fred Rembis is still referring to liberals, who the dictionary refers to as open-minded, progressive people as his friends on the left. That’s much better than Joseph Sidor who calls them Marxist appeasers, peaceniks and mentions something about pink code. Does Sidor have something against peace? Is he a warmonger like (John) McCain? Does he want the U.S. to go to war with Russia over Georgia, home of (Joseph) Stalin once a member of the U.S.S.R. when it was a U.S. ally against Hitler? Why does Sidor call the U.S. occupation of Iraq a war? He says the U.S. has to win. Win what? Win the occupation? Ever since the Chinese drove the U.S. army from the Allo River in Korea back to the 38th parallel, and the U.S. abandoned south Vietnam, people like McCain and Sidor want U.S. victories to make up for these actions even if only against a small country like Iraq that never attacked the U.S.
